On October 21st, 2017, Cape Henlopen High School hosted the second annual Bands at the Beach. This event was a fundraiser for the Cape Henlopen Marching Band boosters. Each band performed their halftime show to their best ability. Schools who attended the Bands at the Beach were Sussex Central, Indian River, and Cape Henlopen. “I thought I was really cool that all three schools were here supporting each other,” Band Director Mr. Burkhart said.

All three schools have talented marching bands and they definitely showed off that talent. Also, all the bands from the three schools get along very well. “Having all three schools come together and just play music together and for each other was an awesome experience. It was a great way for everyone to be engaged in the music we make as a community! I loved it,” Senior Hannah Wiswell said. Some hopes for next year include more bands will come and participate and more people coming to watch.

Cape’s band played music from the ’60’s ’70’s, and ’80’s. Sussex Central’s band played music from super hero movies. Indian River’s band played music from Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Cirque du Soleil and Les Miserables. The Wesley College Band Director Jordan Kinsey attended and offered feedback and constructive criticism to each group. All bands were very impressed and supportive with each other’s performance. “It was fun to interact with the other bands,” Senior Emily Lingo said.  The past two years have been a great turnout and next year will be even better.
