It was announced in 2016 that the Cape Henlopen School District would be building a new elementary school in Lewes. The school is to be located across from Beacon Middle School on John J.Williams Highway. Temporarily named Love Creek Elementary, the school name is to be formally decided on at a future time.

As construction is underway, digitally illustrated photos have been released to the district website along with a video slideshow displaying all of the existing images. These images depict a modern building design and contemporary furnishing with a large playground area. Additionally in the building, there is to be a sizable library and an open lounging area for 4th and 5th grade students.

Students who’ve been in the Cape Henlopen School District growing up have mixed feelings about the new school. Nikita Patel, a junior who attended Rehoboth Elementary School said, “I don’t really think the new school is necessary. Rehoboth Elementary and HOB are right by the area where the new school is going so it seems a little excessive.”

In a similar tone, Sarah Bennett, who also went to Rehoboth Elementary said, “I think the building looks nice but I also feel like it’s weird that it’s right across from Beacon. And there will probably be a lot of traffic on that road when school starts since it’s two schools right next to each other.”

Love Creek Elementary will have an occupancy space of 720 students upon opening, and will have additional classes for the Sussex Consortium. The school is set to open in the fall of 2017 to elementary grade students in the Lewes area.
