After traveling across the nation for nearly 150 years, the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus announce via Twitter that the “Greatest Show on Earth,” will be coming to a close. “It’s so sad such an old circus has to be shut down because it cannot keep up with the times however it’s usage of certain animals was very questionable,” Senior Josh Dorofee said.

“.@RinglingBros will hold its final performances in May of this year. Details: goo.gl/75ndaN #RinglingBros” – Ringling Bros. tweeted on January 14th.

The show will come to a close due to a low demand in tickets and also the cost of production. The elephants were originally the secret to the circus’ success. However last year was when animal activist across the nation united together in order to seek justice for the elephants. They have since been released into the wild. Due to the absence of the elephants in the show, there has been a decrease in demand for tickets. “I think it’s such a shame to see the greatest show on earth to close,” said Junior Clayton Scoda.

The animals that are currently in the show will be taken to sustainable homes. There are also over 500 performers that took part in the many years of performing in the circus. These performers will be transferred to the other show that is being put on by the parent company. “It’s pretty sad seeing the Ringling Brothers Circus close down. I went to see the show when I was five. It was really good when I saw it,” Senior Antonio Moreno said.
