Five teenage boys were recently arrested and charged with second degree murder after throwing rocks off of an overpass in Michigan. Their ages range from 15 to 17 years old. “It’s very surprising and very sad,” said Junior Erin Cannon. “I was shocked when I heard about it.”

The teens are accused of standing on an overpass in Michigan and throwing rocks at the passing cars. Many drivers have reported that large rocks or “chunks” had hit their vehicles that day, but no injuries. However, what started as a “prank” as the boys say, ended up deadly. A six pound rock was dropped from the overpass and smashed through a passing drivers windshield. The driver was 32 year old Kenneth White, on his way home from work.

The rock went through the windshield, hitting White’s face and ricocheting onto his chest which caused fractures to his face and skull. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

“It’s hard to believe that something like this would happen”, said Junior Savannah Reed. “It’s not something you want to here on the news.” White was engaged just days earlier and had a 5 year old son as well. His fiancé would like to attend as many court dates for the teens as possible. She says she wants them to understand that there are consequences for your actions. The judge is also having a tough time because “they are just kids, and I don’t think they went out planning to kill anyone”, he also has kids of his own around the same age.

The teens now face a life sentence in prison if convicted.
