Spirit Week last year was certainly a memorable one. All was well until Wednesday, which was planned to be “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink” Day, yet got swapped last minute with Hawaiian Thursday as a fear of promoting bullying from the Mean Girls reference. The homecoming dance was postponed until October 24th because of Hurricane Joaquin, then the homecoming parade got cancelled altogether. Finally, the homecoming dance took place on its rescheduled date with the theme “Homecoming in Wonderland.”

Although last year’s homecoming was eventful, students hope this year’s will stick more to the plan. The date set for homecoming this year is Saturday, October 29th with Spirit Week beforehand, Monday the 24th through Friday the 28th. The Student Government Association (SGA) is in charge of the homecoming theme each year, along with SGA advisors Mrs. Lingo and Mrs. Lambert. The theme for this year’s dance is “Dancing In The Moonlight.” Additionally, the Spirit Week days were revealed to be ‘Merica Monday, Team Tuesday, Holiday Humpday, Throwback Thursday, and Color Wars. After the reveal of the theme and spirit week days, Mrs. Lingo said, “We are really excited to be doing homecoming this time. Mrs. Lambert and I are doing it this year so hopefully it’ll be something different.”

Students as always are excited when the new theme is announced. Junior Nikita Patel said, “I think the theme sounds really fun! I can’t wait to spend the night laughing and dancing with my friends instead of stressing over grades,” She laughed. “And I think the spirit week ideas were pretty original too — Throwback Thursday sounds awesome.”

Junior Sarah Bennett said, “Homecoming is always one of my favorite parts of coming back to school each year. It’s a little late this time around, but I’m still excited. It’s gonna be lit!”

Overall, the buzz for homecoming week has been tremendous this year. Classes are fervently planning their floats, and enthusiastic students already picking out their pep rally outfits. Hopefully this year will be just as, if not more, successful than in past years.
