Once a year, traffic is blocked off so that thousands of people from all over the world can run 26.2 miles in all 5 boroughs of New York City. The NYC Marathon is the largest marathon in the world with over 50,000 participants. Prior to November 6, runners train daily to ensure they will complete the feat that is the NYC marathon. This year, one of those dedicated runners that trained every day leading up the race was Chemistry teacher Ms. Kernosh. Ms. Kernosh is an avid runner and can be often seen putting on her sneakers right after to school to run around Lewes. She has be running now for about 6 years now and even though this was her first marathon she was not nervous or scared. She felt confident and prepared. “I wasn’t not nervous at all. I tried not to worry about it. All I wanted to do was finish, not break a world record or anything”, she explained. Not only did she finish, but she had a great time of 5 hours and 36 seconds! The training of 40 miles a week truly paid off!

After running constantly for months, it is safe to assume that  after awhile, you begin to hate the mundane aspect of running. Not Ms. Kernosh.  “I love running. It gives me time alone to think and just makes me really happy”, she said. She also loves running because anybody can do it; all you really need are sneakers. “Probably the hardest part about running is just getting started and putting your shoes on”, she adds. “It is like this for most runners, but once you start running you can’t stop”.  Congratulations Ms. Kernosh on completing a task that many will never attempt!
